I bike to work everyday.
Part of the reason that I choose to live where I do, is because it is near where I work (plus I could afford it in Flagstaff's crazy housing market). Many times I bike to the store, or friends houses, or to do general errands. Heck, I even bike to the bars, I get just as nervous biking home after several beers as I would driving (so in other words I would no more likely bike home drunk as I would drive home drunk, plus it is a tinny little bit harder to bike home drunk than it is to drive home drunk, not that I would know anything about this sort of thing). So anyways the point being is that I am very passionate about BIKING!
And wouldn't you know it, Flagstaff was recently designated a bicycle friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists.
There is a cool organization in Flagstaff called Flagstaff Biking ( www.flagstaffbiking.org ) Every year they organize the Bike to Work Week. They set up competitions between all the local workplaces in town. So this year I signed up my office. I believe it was the first year my office was signed up. I was hoping that since my office is made up of people that presumably care about the environment that our participation rate would be really good. Hmm... well I would say that it was mediocre. Out of about 55 people that commute to work only about 3 or 4 people actually biked to work on a regular basis. And then on Wednesday, the day of the actual Bike to Work challenge day, we only had 8 people bike to work, which is only about 15%. Hopefully next year we will do better.
